Rocky Mountain Power Foundation grant supports Habitat for Humanity Project to build four family homes

Habitat for Humanity, Wind River Country executive director Erin Bates Shirley accepted the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation grant award from Rocky Mountain Power customer and community manager Larry Elcock at her office at 305 E. Main Street in Riverton, Wyoming.

RIVERTON, Wyo. - The Rocky Mountain Power Foundation has awarded a $2,500 grant to Habitat for Humanity, Wind River Country, to help support its project to build four single-family units on lots acquired in Riverton

“We are so thankful for the continuing support to our program from Rocky Mountain Power Foundation," said Erin Bates Shirley, executive director for Habitat for Humanity, Wind River Country. "These are challenging times to continue our affordable housing program entirely funded by grants. We really appreciate our continuing partnership in support of low-income Fremont County families with young children.“
“We are pleased to be able to support the Habitat for Humanity, Wind River Country through this grant from the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation," said Larry Elcock, Rocky Mountain Power customer and community manager. "This project will provide the opportunity for home ownership to deserving families that may otherwise not be afforded that opportunity.”

Habitat will be inviting the local construction trades programs to join them once again on the job site to be located at the old Riverton Hospital site. Habitat offers on site construction experience opportunities to students learning a trade.

“We love having the students on our job site. They are there to learn and we are blessed with many volunteers who have built our houses with us in the past to guide them along with the instructors. We couldn't get these homes built without all our volunteers, they add a special energy to our projects and make these projects a success year after year,” added Shirley.

Habitat's chosen partner family is a single, working mother with three young children. Nationwide 80 percent of all Habitat homeowners are single-parent families. Habitat will start construction in the fall of 2011 with a projected completion date of June 1, 2012.

Since 1997, Habitat for Humanity has built homes all over Fremont County including the Wind River Indian Reservation. This upcoming home to be built in Riverton will be #15.
